The average hitech wage in July dropped by 6.2%, falling from 36,584 NIS in June to 34,301 NIS. This contraction narrowed the annual wage growth for hitech employees to just 2.3% compared to July 2025 (33,520 NIS), following double-digit annual increases in previous months: 13.7% in May and 11.7% in June. This data comes from the Central Bureau of Statistics report on average wages and employment positions for July. Even after this decline, the hitech wage remains nearly 2.4 times higher than the overall national average wage.

The highest wage was recorded in the scientific research and development segment at 37,578 shillings, employing 46.4 thousand wage earners. In programming and computer consultancy—a sector employing over 218 thousand workers (55% of all hitech employees)—the average wage stood at 36,052 NIS. The number of hitech employee positions in July stood at 397.3 thousand, representing a 0.2% decrease compared to June (397.9 thousand) and a 0.3% decrease compared to July 2025 (398.3 thousand).

On one hand, this is a seasonal decline. On the other hand, the fact that the number of employee positions is lower than a year ago points to an employment recession within the sector. Hitech positions accounted for 9.3% of all employee positions in the economy in July, compared to 9.4% in June and 9.4% in July 2025.

The average wage in the economy for Israeli workers decreased in August by 0.6%, dropping from 14,534 NIS in July to 14,448 NIS, according to a flash estimate. This decrease is milder than the 1.4% drop recorded from July to August of last year. Compared to August 2025 (13,867 NIS), this represents a 4.2% increase. The number of Israeli employee positions decreased in August by 2.2%, falling from 4.251 million in July to 4.158 million. This is a seasonal decline, as employee positions dropped by 2.3% in August of last year. Compared to August 2025, this reflects a 0.9% increase.
