Minor Indicted for Jerusalem Car Theft and High-Speed Chase
A 17-year-old Hebron minor was indicted for stealing a Jerusalem car, illegal entry, and a 200 km/h police chase after receiving coordinates via WhatsApp.
A 17-year-old minor from Hebron has been formally charged with stealing a car from a Jerusalem neighborhood and committing a series of additional offenses after illegally entering Israel and being directed to the vehicle via WhatsApp location sharing.
According to the investigation by the Maale Adumim police station and the indictment, the minor met with another individual at a Ramallah hotel prior to the theft. That person drove him near the security fence, where he received burglary tools and an Israeli SIM card before illegally crossing into Israel.
Based on the indictment, the vehicle's location was sent to the minor via WhatsApp. He arrived at the scene, broke into the car, and fled from Jerusalem toward the Maale Adumim area.
Following a police report regarding the stolen vehicle and its direction of travel, police forces deployed in the Maale Adumim area to intercept him. Upon noticing the authorities, the minor began a reckless and dangerous high-speed getaway, which police stated reached approximately 200 kilometers per hour.
During the pursuit, the minor attempted to ram a police cruiser before losing control and crashing in a single-vehicle accident. He was arrested on the spot, and burglary tools were found inside the vehicle. A background check revealed that he had never obtained a driver's license.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the Judea and Samaria District Police Prosecution filed an indictment against the minor for illegal entry and stay in Israel, car theft, breaking into a vehicle with intent to steal, possession of burglary tools, driving without a license, endangering persons on a traffic route, obstructing a police officer, driving without insurance, and intentional property damage to a vehicle. The court extended his detention until the conclusion of proceedings.
Police noted that in the past week alone, the prevention of nine vehicle thefts was thwarted in the Judea and Samaria District sector, and five suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the thefts.
