The tragic passing of actress Hayden Panettiere has taken a bizarre and painful turn as her estranged parents reportedly dispute over her final possessions.
According to an official report from the Greenville County coroner's office obtained by Page Six, the late 36-year-old actress was wearing diamond stud earrings at the time of her death. The items were removed during the autopsy.
A Family Dispute Over Jewelry
The deputy coroner contacted Panettiere's parents, Lesley Vogel and Alan Skip Panettiere, to inform them that the autopsy was complete. However, the parents could not agree on who should take custody of the diamond earrings, forcing local authorities to hold them until a mutual agreement is reached.
"The property was placed in the locker of the senior deputy coroner for safekeeping," the official report stated.
One parent requested that the earrings be mailed to an address in North Carolina, while the other asked for them to be shipped to California. Authorities declined to take sides, keeping the items secured.
Complicated Family Dynamics
Panettiere's parents separated in 2008 and finalized their divorce in 2015. The actress's relationship with her mother, Lesley, had been famously strained in recent years. Following her daughter's death, Lesley spoke to Good Morning America, revealing that they had been estranged in the months leading up to the tragedy.
Lesley also discussed her daughter's turbulent relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, noting that Hayden had struggled with toxic influences and personal hardships. While the memorial service in Malibu drew stars like Paris Hilton, Connie Britton, and Ruby Rose, Lesley did not attend, citing a family emergency.
Hayden Panettiere passed away on August 16 after being found unresponsive in a Greenville Airbnb. The coroner's report confirmed that her death was the result of the toxic effects of substances, including fentanyl.
