New Escalators Installed at Busy Tel Aviv HaShalom Railway Station
Israel Railways has completed installing new escalators at the busy Tel Aviv HaShalom station, following complex overnight engineering works involving freight transport.
Israel Railways announced on Friday the completion of a major upgrade at the Tel Aviv HaShalom railway station, one of the busiest transit hubs in the country. Over the past month, installation was finalized for a new escalator leading from the northern passenger hall to platform 1, followed this week by another escalator serving platforms 2 and 3.
The new escalators are currently undergoing final safety tests and operational approvals, with public launch expected in the coming days.
Carrying out the upgrade project presented a significant engineering and logistical challenge. The complex works were conducted while maintaining uninterrupted daily operations at the station, which serves approximately 60,000 passengers every day.
Due to the station's specific structural design and central location, the heavy equipment was transported directly via freight trains. The custom-manufactured escalators were installed exclusively during night hours to minimize disruption for commuters. According to Israel Railways, additional station facilities across Tel Aviv will be upgraded in the coming months as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements.
