Fire and Rescue services in the Jerusalem district reported a major forest fire that broke out in the Haruvit Forest near Beit Shemesh on Saturday afternoon during the Sukkot holiday. Firefighters are working intensively in the area to prevent the flames from spreading and have organized the evacuation of hikers visiting the nature reserve.
Six firefighting aircraft were deployed to battle the blaze as the fire reached the treetops. Aerial footage captured by surveillance helicopters showed heavy smoke blanketing the wooded region, providing crucial situational awareness and support for the ground crews operating below.
Fire and Rescue authorities clarified that there is currently no immediate danger to nearby residential communities, while aerial firefighting units continue operations alongside ground crews. Police forces were dispatched to the scene and are coordinating with firefighters, urging the public to avoid the area and strictly follow security and rescue instructions.
