Harry and Meghan lost to cats: The couple's new failure

Last week, 'Cookie Queens', a documentary about the Girl Scouts movement produced by the former royals' production company, was released in the US. However, the film failed to impress at the box office, and beyond the disappointing figures, it was also overtaken by a film consisting of a collection of cat videos. 'By any measure, this is a pretty pathetic income,' said an industry source.

Another day, another failure for Harry and Meghan — but the main thing is that they are trying: last week, 'Cookie Queens', the documentary film produced by the couple's company Archewell Productions, was released in the US, but the initial figures are not exactly flattering. And while no one expected success on the scale of major blockbusters, it is doubtful that anyone imagined the film would succeed less than a film that is entirely a collection of cat videos.

According to the official data published in the Times, the film, which deals with the fundraising efforts of Girl Scouts movement members in the US through cookie sales, was released in 446 theaters — but failed to break into the top ten in the box office chart. It grossed less than 260 thousand pounds in its first weekend, with each screening bringing in an average of only about 500 pounds.

'By any measure, this is a pretty pathetic income,' an industry source told the Times.

And what is in this cat film, 'CatVideoFest 2026', that overtook the Duke and Duchess's film? It is a collection of cat videos sent in by the public, alongside animations and clips from the internet. The film grossed about 420 thousand pounds in its first weekend — even though it was screened in 191 fewer theaters than 'Cookie Queens'. It was ranked tenth in the box office chart, while Harry and Meghan's film settled for 12th place.

At Roadside Attractions, the independent distributor of 'Cookie Queens', they sounded less worried about the figures. A spokesperson for the company told the Deadline website that the film received good reactions among viewers who are currently or were in the past members of the Girl Scouts movement. 'We are encouraged by the response and believe the film has a long life ahead of it,' he said.

Harry and Meghan arrived in January for the world premiere of the film at the Sundance 2026 festival in Salt Lake City. The film was directed by Alyssa Nahmias, and Meghan said during the premiere that it is a powerful description of an American tradition. Reviews for 'Cookie Queens' were mixed. In Variety magazine, they claimed that the film feels too much like a reality show, and criticized it for focusing mainly on the Girl Scouts movement members without delving beyond that.
