Movement Demands Sanctions After Haredi Students Join Draft Evader Protest
Yisrael Hofsheet demanded sanctions against Haredi schools whose students and teachers protested for draft evaders during school hours, violating education guidelines.
Haredi students and teachers from several Hasidic institutions participated in an organized protest outside a military prison in support of draft evaders instead of attending regular classes. The event, which included participants from Jerusalem, Safed, Beit Shemesh, Beitar Illit, and Tel Aviv, drew sharp condemnation from civil organizations.
Following the incident, the "Yisrael Hofsheet" movement sent a formal warning letter to Education Minister Yoav Kisch and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, demanding severe enforcement measures. These include revoking operating licenses and cutting off public funding for the involved Talmud Torah institutions.
The organization stated that participating in and organizing such political demonstrations during school hours constitutes a direct violation of the Ministry of Education director-general's guidelines, which explicitly prohibit teachers and school administrators from involving students in protests.
