Two Arrested After Haifa Airport Car Break-Ins and Police Chase
Two suspects from Acre and Kiryat Yam were arrested after breaking into cars at Haifa Airport, fleeing police, ramming a cruiser, and being stopped by gunfire.
Two suspects, including a minor, from Acre and Kiryat Yam were arrested today (Wednesday) after allegedly breaking into several vehicles at the Haifa Airport parking lot and fleeing the scene. According to the police, the suspects' vehicle ran red lights during the pursuit, rammed a police cruiser, and was eventually stopped after officers fired at its tires.
The incident began following a report of suspected break-ins at the Haifa Airport parking lot. Zevulun police station officers arrived at the scene and located several broken-into vehicles. At the same time, they spotted a suspicious vehicle driving without lights and bearing different, forged license plates on the front and rear.
According to the police, upon spotting the patrol car, the vehicle began fleeing toward Route 77. During the high-speed pursuit, the driver crossed intersections against red lights, endangering other motorists.
Officers set up a roadblock on the escape route, but the driver refused to stop and rammed a police car. Consequently, officers opened fire at the vehicle's tires, bringing it to a halt. The two suspects inside were taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle yielded property suspected of being stolen from the broken-into cars, along with documents, vehicle licenses, and a pistol magazine.
The Krayot Magistrates' Court extended the detention of both suspects. The adult's remand was extended until September 20, while the minor's remand was extended until tomorrow.
