The Israel Fire and Rescue Authority (Coastal District) reported on Wednesday an unusual incident in the Carmel Tunnels in Haifa, where a private vehicle caught fire. Due to the blaze and the thick smoke that accumulated at the site, the tunnels were completely closed to traffic in both directions, and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters from the Haifa station are currently working inside the tunnel to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles. The teams are operating under complex conditions of heavy smoke, while the tunnel's drainage and ventilation systems have been activated to clear the air.

At this stage, rescue forces report that the incident is under control. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties due to the fire or smoke inhalation. Drivers in the Haifa area are asked to show patience, avoid the tunnel area, and choose alternative routes.
