Israeli comedian Hadar Levi fell victim to a phishing scam ahead of Yom Kippur, losing control of her phone number and accounts after clicking a fake debt notification.
Israeli stand-up comedian Hadar Levi became the victim of a sophisticated phishing scam just hours before Yom Kippur, losing control of her phone number, accounts, and credit cards.
Speaking in an interview, Levi explained that she received a text message claiming she had an unpaid debt related to the Carmel Tunnels. Believing the notification was genuine, she entered her credit card details and ID number. Her brother quickly realized it was a scam and urged her to cancel her cards immediately.
Despite canceling the cards, the fraudsters managed to port her phone number, giving them access to her authentication codes and personal identity. Although she managed to regain her phone number with outside help, her accounts remain compromised. Authorities warn that this widespread scam often involves fake messages from toll roads like Highway 6 or the Carmel Tunnels.
