Monica Levy, whose legendary nickname "Monica Sex" provided the inspiration for the name of the successful Israeli rock band, passed away this morning, Monday, after a long struggle with a serious illness. Levy, formerly the bassist of the punk-rock band "Killer Ha'lohet", is survived by her husband, two sons, and six grandchildren. Her funeral will take place tomorrow at 16:00 at the cemetery in Omer.

Levy was born in Romania under the name Monica Friedman, immigrated to Israel at the age of 6, and grew up in Be'er Sheva. During her military service as an investigator in the Military Police (MATZAH) unit, she met musicians Yoram Mark-Reich and Yaron Dekel, and joined as a bassist the first lineup of "Killer Ha'lohet" — one of the first punk-rock bands in Israel, which stood out in the early 80s.

The band's leader, Yoram Mark-Reich, paid tribute to her this morning in an emotional farewell post and revealed the source of the legendary name:

"Back then she was still called Monica Friedman, but thanks to her stunning beauty I gave her the nickname 'Monica Sex', which years later was also adopted by Yahli Sobol and his friends who were looking for a cool name for their band. She remained a stunning beauty throughout all her years."

Levy left the band after her marriage to Meir Levy (later deputy commander of the national Military Police unit) and her pregnancy. A few years ago, a moving meeting took place between her and the members of the band "Monica Sex" (Yahli Sobol and Peter Roth), who had previously said that they adopted the name following a suggestion they received, without initially understanding the provocative context.

"About four years ago, Monica fell ill with a serious disease, and since then she underwent many aggressive treatments, but the disease reared its head again and again," Mark-Reich concluded with sorrow. "This morning, while I was corresponding with her husband who was by her side at Hadassah Hospital, she passed away. Sad, very sad."
