Google has announced Universal Cart, a new artificial intelligence-powered shopping service that consolidates items from different stores into a single universal shopping cart. Currently, the service is available exclusively in the USA through the search engine and the Gemini app.

Simplifying Online Shopping

The service is designed to streamline the online shopping experience and eliminate the need for users to juggle dozens of open browser tabs. The cart allows users to save products from various websites over time, even if they were found at different times and across different Google services, and return to them easily at any stage.

The system solves the problem of scattered tabs and screenshots through continuous synchronization between Google's AI interfaces. Users can save a product via the AI mode in search and subsequently add more items from a conversation in the Gemini app to the same unified cart.

Advanced Features and Integration

The system relies on the Google Shopping database, which includes tens of billions of items updated in real time, and automatically alerts users to price drops or restocked items. Beyond item consolidation, the system leverages artificial intelligence to find savings opportunities by displaying relevant coupon codes and analyzing user payment methods.

Thanks to integration with Google Wallet, the system recommends the credit card or rewards program that yields maximum savings, points, or cash back for a given transaction. At checkout, users can complete purchases quickly and directly via Google Pay at selected retailers—including Nike, Target, Walmart, and Wayfair—or proceed directly to the merchant's website.

Google clarifies that the stores themselves remain the official merchants responsible for order fulfillment, shipping, and customer service.

The launch of Universal Cart marks a major milestone in Google's AI-driven e-commerce expansion, powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) infrastructure and connected directly to the Shopping Graph.
