Google users in Israel have been targeted by a widespread phishing campaign involving fraudulent security alerts about alleged login attempts from Iran. The attackers distribute urgent messages urging recipients to call a fake support hotline, utilizing premium-rate phone numbers.

Security researchers at Fisherman Security identified the fraudulent operation. According to the findings, some numbers feature a 1-809 prefix, mimicking familiar toll-free lines to build false trust while actually routing calls to expensive overseas premium services.

Matan Gadanian, CEO of Fisherman Security, stated that the perpetrators exploit fear tactics and social engineering. The scheme mirrors previous telephone phishing operations targeting financial platforms and cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance to steal user funds.

Cybersecurity experts advise the public to avoid clicking links or dialing phone numbers provided in unsolicited alerts. Instead, users should navigate directly to official company websites to verify account security status.
