Google is restricting access to its advanced Gemini AI models for free users and some paid subscribers. According to a new company document, starting October 9, free users will only be able to use Gemini via the Flash-Lite model, losing access to the Flash and Pro tiers.

Impact on Paid Tiers and New Features

Google AI Plus subscribers, paying 19 ILS monthly or 190 ILS annually, will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash but will lose Pro model selection. AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will keep full access to all three tiers. Additionally, Google is upgrading the Pro plan by adding the Deep Think mode, previously exclusive to Ultra users, which allows parallel processing for complex tasks.

Google stated that the adjustments reflect the growing computing power requirements of advanced artificial intelligence models.

Industry Trends and Competitor Pricing

Google recently unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, initially restricted to cybersecurity experts and the US government. Meanwhile, competitors like OpenAI have also adjusted pricing, introducing a 500 USD per month Pro 500 plan while cutting usage quotas for new Pro 200 subscribers.
