Google has introduced a new feature in AI Studio that allows users to create native Android applications using text prompts alone and install them directly onto their smartphones via Google Play. Unlike web apps built with tools like Lovable, these are fully native Android apps written in Kotlin using Jetpack Compose, capable of utilizing device hardware such as cameras, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Simplifying App Development

Previously, once users generated an app through AI Studio, testing and installation required connecting the smartphone to a computer, utilizing ADB, or setting up a developer account for testing tracks. The new update eliminates this bureaucracy, enabling users to install and run their custom applications through the official store using only a standard Google account.

Privacy and Future Updates

Google emphasizes that these applications remain strictly private, meaning they will not appear in public Google Play search results or be downloadable by other users. However, they must still comply with Google’s core policies. In the coming months, Google plans to allow users to share their created apps with a small circle of family and friends without making them public, before eventually transitioning to a professional developer account for wider distribution. The feature is initially rolling out to users aged 18 and older in the United States and select markets.
