Gidi Gov in a fierce legal battle: New complications following accident compensation
After paying tens of thousands of shekels to a driver injured in an accident, the insurance company "Phoenix" has launched a separate legal proceeding against its famous client, Gidi Gov, claiming he was driving under an active medical disqualification.
A compensation sum of approximately 30,000 shekels, awarded to a driver injured in a car accident, has exposed a fierce legal conflict between singer Gidi Gov and the insurance company "Phoenix". The incident, which occurred last September on the Ayalon Highway, resulted in a chain-reaction collision that led to a lawsuit in the Tel Aviv Small Claims Court.
The plaintiff, a young driver named A., demanded compensation for vehicle damages and filed suit against both Gov and his insurer. In response, "Phoenix" adopted an aggressive defense: the company refused to recognize the incident as covered by the policy, disclaimed liability, and revealed data from the singer's personal file at the Ministry of Transport.
The defense filing revealed that at the time of the accident, Gov was under an active license suspension due to medical restrictions. Consequently, the company argued that Gov had violated a fundamental condition of his insurance contract, was not considered an "authorized driver," and must bear the expenses personally. The company even demanded that its name be removed from the lawsuit.
Despite this firm stance, the company eventually transferred the full claim amount of 29,364 shekels to the plaintiff. As reported by "Mako", this sudden move raised questions, given the company's prior claims that its policyholder was driving illegally.
The legal confrontation between the policyholder and the company is far from over. "Phoenix" stated that the payment was made as "interim financing" only, to spare the injured driver from further legal delays.
"The question of Gov's insurance coverage is currently being discussed in a separate proceeding in the Magistrate's Court, where legal authorities will determine who will bear the total cost of the compensation," the company clarified.
