Geordie Greep Addresses Misconduct Allegations and Cancels US Tour Dates
Musician Geordie Greep addressed serious misconduct allegations during a Vancouver concert after flyers accusing him of assault were distributed. Denying rape, he admitted to misinterpreting a woman's behavior and later cancelled five US tour dates.
Geordie Greep, known as the frontman of the British indie band black midi and for his solo work, faced unexpected controversy during his recent tour stop in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to his performance, flyers were distributed in the crowd accusing the musician of sexual assault, citing an incident from the early morning hours. Greep took the stage two hours late and without his backing band to address the allegations directly in front of the audience.
Addressing the Allegations on Stage
Speaking to the concerned crowd, Greep vehemently denied the accusation of rape while acknowledging that a troubling misunderstanding had occurred during a night out with band members.
Basically, what happened last night is that some band members and I went out to a few bars, hung out, met people, and eventually found ourselves at a house party very late, Greep told the audience. I misinterpreted someone's behavior, tried to make a move, and it was not well received. I apologized immediately.
Greep explained that his bandmates chose not to perform alongside him due to the frightening nature of the situation. To demonstrate his remorse, the musician announced that all proceeds from the Vancouver concert would be donated to a British Columbia organization combating violence, before delivering a shortened 10-song set.
Fallout and Cancelled Shows
According to reports from Rolling Stone Canada, while flyers distributed at the venue explicitly used the word assault, conversations with witnesses suggested the incident involved an unwanted kiss rather than rape. Nonetheless, the severe nature of the accusations led Greep and his team to cancel five upcoming tour dates across the United States.
