A new investigation by the Fake Reporter organization has revealed that a popular Israeli Facebook fan group with nearly 34,000 members is being managed by a network of suspicious accounts operated from abroad, including Saudi Arabia, India, and Pakistan.

Foreign Control Over Local Discourse

The group, centered around prominent Israeli media figures, features active political debates among genuine Israeli users who remain entirely unaware of who truly controls the space. According to transparency data, the group is managed by pages linked to a broader network that shares identical content and coordinated posting patterns. One prominent page, the Itai Malka Fan Club, has over 39,000 followers and is operated by individuals registered in both Israel and Saudi Arabia, while other connected accounts show phone numbers and administrators in India and Pakistan.

AI Slop and Fake News Tactics

The network leverages artificial intelligence to generate engagement, posting emotional synthetic images such as AI-generated pilots and elderly models, a phenomenon known as AI slop. Furthermore, the accounts disseminate manipulated graphics disguised as legitimate reports from Israeli news outlets, utilizing branding and manipulated images of political figures to mislead readers regarding current events and upcoming elections.

"If these foreign profiles want to intervene in the elections and influence tens of thousands of Israelis, they can do it with astonishing ease because they control their digital space within the group," warned a Fake Reporter representative.

Security experts and researchers are calling on Meta and relevant authorities to increase oversight on foreign influence networks and enhance transparency regarding group administrators, as the infrastructure poses a distinct threat to the integrity of public discourse.
