Fiverr has introduced a new application track that bypasses the traditional resume requirement, as part of a newly launched career site in July. According to the company, the track—named The Unusual Way—is designed to allow candidates to showcase their skills, initiative, and thought processes, even when their academic degree or last job title does not fully reflect their true capabilities.

This move comes against the backdrop of growing frustration among tech job seekers, who frequently struggle to get past initial screening stages—a phase currently handled by automated AI tools scanning dry keywords. "I believe that resumes will die soon," says Naama Gelband, internal communications and employer branding manager at Fiverr. "The reason we haven't completely abolished our career page yet is that both people and the recruitment process haven't fully transitioned through this change, but that day is not far off."

The Business Logic Behind Alternative Hiring

While Fiverr still hires for roles through traditional resumes and evaluates past experience, the company explains that alongside the conventional filtering, there is a clear business consideration. "Companies invest a lot of effort in preventing bad hires, but it is much harder to measure the cost of an excellent candidate who never made it to an interview at all," Gelband explains. She notes that in an era where AI tools are entering HR departments, companies are increasingly evaluating learning agility, adaptability, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving—parameters that often vanish within a standard resume.

The new track allows candidates to apply freely by presenting a project, a problem they solved, a skill they acquired, or any detail they feel best illustrates what they bring to the table. "In a standard process, the company predefines the fields and information it requests," says Gelband. "Here, an individual has the opportunity to say: 'The thing that will best help you understand me is actually a project I did, a problem I solved, or a skill I acquired.'"

"I believe that resumes will die soon," says Naama Gelband, internal communications and employer branding manager at Fiverr.

Initial Success and Candidate Response

During the first month of the launch, according to Fiverr's data, tens of thousands of people visited the new career site, thousands of candidates used the AI-match tool (an AI-based tool helping candidates match their skills to open positions), and more than 300 applied through The Unusual Way track. The company notes that the proportion of candidates found suitable for Fiverr increased by more than 30% compared to the average, and the site's relative share of the total candidate pool grew by dozens of percent.

One of the submissions already accepted through the new track came from a candidate who could not find a specific suitable role—and therefore created his own job description. "Since I didn't apply for a specific role, I created a job description for myself," the candidate wrote, detailing what experience was required for it and why it was necessary for the company. Gelband shares that the company also receives feedback from candidates who did not continue in the recruitment process, yet send feedback on the experience and offer ideas. According to her, candidates present personal projects, apps they built, work with major clients, games developed for their children, and professional interests—details that struggle to find a place in a traditional resume document.

Alongside the new track, the site also includes updated email content throughout all screening stages—from the initial outreach to offer letters. Currently, Fiverr has about 30 open positions.
