HaMerhav HaHevrati Takes Over Jerusalem's First Station Complex
The social organization HaMerhav HaHevrati has officially taken over management of Jerusalem's First Station complex, aiming to revive the struggling cultural and commercial hub.
The social organization "HaMerhav HaHevrati", known for transforming empty or abandoned buildings into cultural and community hubs, has officially taken over the management of the First Station complex in Jerusalem.
A New Chapter for a Struggling Hub
Following months of uncertainty, declining business activity, and infrastructure works carried out by Israel Railways, the organization confirmed its takeover via social media. The complex had faced a significant downturn, transitioning from a vibrant secular hub to a location where businesses were closing down one by one.
"To anyone who has already written off the First Station complex in Jerusalem, think again," the association stated. "The next station: HaMerhav HaHevrati. We are opening a new chapter in the complex with plenty of ideas, content, culture, community, and good people."
Infrastructure Works and Future Plans
Over the past year and a half, Israel Railways initiated construction work in and around the area as part of the high-speed rail extension project to the capital and the establishment of the Jerusalem-El Hani station. These disruptions contributed to the decline of the commercial area, with many business owners terminating their operations.
Public and municipal officials welcomed the transition. Ariel Baziz, a member of the Jerusalem City Council and holder of the business and districts portfolio, stated that the move is a critical step forward for local merchants and the city as a whole, aiming to revive weekend activities and restore the area's vital role in Jerusalem's leisure landscape.
