Night Closures on Ayalon and the Coastal Road: How to Prepare
Traffic disruptions are expected this week at night due to the closure of segments on the Coastal Road and Ayalon Highway. The work includes the installation of signage in preparation for the expansion of the Fast Lanes project.

The Coastal Road (Highway 2) and the Ayalon Highway are expected to be closed this week for several nights as part of the ongoing "Fast Lanes" project.
While the "Netivei Ayalon" company is making an effort to divide the closures into segments to ease the burden on travelers, it is recommended to prepare for potential inconvenience in advance.
What do the works include?
The Fast Lanes project, launched in April 2026, has an estimated cost of approximately 8 billion shekels. The system offers frequent electric shuttles to the Tel Aviv metropolis, departing every five minutes from the transport complex in Shefayim, which provides about 7,000 parking spaces. Currently, the lane is reserved for shuttles and public transport between the HaShalom interchange and Shefayim.
Future plans include opening a transport center in Rishon LeZion and extending the fast lanes along the entire length of Highway 20 and parts of the Coastal Road. Eventually, the route will become a toll road, with free access for carpools. Current works involve installing signage, such as "except for buses."
Closure Schedule
All closures will take place between 00:00 and 05:00 on different segments:
-
Monday night to Tuesday morning: Highway 20 (Ayalon North) closed between Rokach and KKL interchanges. Traffic will be diverted via the Rokach exit.
-
Tuesday night to Wednesday morning: Highway 2 (Coastal Road) southbound closed between Poleg and Wingate interchanges. Traffic will be diverted to Highway 553 and then to Highway 4.
-
Wednesday night to Thursday morning: Highway 2 southbound closed between Netanya and Gesher HaShalom interchanges. Traffic will be diverted through local streets to Gesher HaShalom.
How to prepare
The best recommendation is to avoid these areas during work hours if possible. Netivei Ayalon advises using the Waze navigation app, which is updated in real-time with all changes.
