British-Iranian Citizen Arrested in Fairford Terror Plot Investigation

British counter-terrorism police arrested a British-Iranian citizen on Thursday on suspicion of involvement in a foiled car bomb plot at the Royal Air Force base Fairford earlier this week. The arrest follows remarks by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who stated that there are "strong signs" pointing to Iranian involvement in the incident.

Investigation Reveals New Details and 999 Call

New details emerged regarding the thwarted attack at the strategic bomber base. According to The Times, the plot was uncovered after one of the suspects called emergency services himself nearly an hour before a local farmer reported seeing a large group of masked men in hoodies at 01:36. Investigators are examining whether the suspect had a last-minute change of heart or if the emergency call was part of a coordinated plan.

The investigation is far from over, and new leads have emerged—including suspected involvement by a foreign state.

International Reaction and Security Measures

Five previously arrested suspects, London residents aged 23 to 25, were released on bail as the investigation continues. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the incident involved a foreign actor, while British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting urged caution against speculation regarding motives. Dozens of local residents were temporarily evacuated as security forces secured the perimeter of the base, which is utilized by the US military for strategic bomber operations.
