Eyal Berkovic Under Fire: "The Highest-Paid Employee at Channel 13"
Eyal Berkovic questioned the rating data of his program on Channel 13, sparking a backlash. Screenwriter Meni Assayag hit back, highlighting the host's high salary and his misunderstanding of how television ratings are measured.
Former football player Eyal Berkovic, who serves as a broadcaster on the 103FM radio station and as a host on Channel 13, addressed the rating data garnered by current affairs programs on Israeli television channels this Wednesday.
In his program with journalist Erel Segal, Berkovic turned to his colleague and the listeners, declaring that there was allegedly an error in the publication of the rating data:
"I do not believe the ratings, this week I caught them. Riklin had 4.5%, which is 0.5% more than Moria and Berko, so I looked at the number of viewers and saw that he had 90,000 viewers and we had 120,000. How is his rating higher? It's nonsense."
Screenwriter Meni Assayag, one of the creators of the television series "The 80s" and brother of comedian Shalom Assayag, was exposed to the former football player's statement and rushed to respond on the social network X. In a tweet, Assayag took a jab at Eyal Berkovic, referring to his economic situation:
"The man has been working in television for 200 years, he is the highest earner at Channel 13, and still does not understand that the rating is measured by households, and therefore it sometimes happens that there are fewer rating points but more viewers."
Subsequently, Assayag criticized the management of 103FM radio and the senior officials of Channel 13 who employ Berkovic:
"It seems that his employers are trying to present to all of us the ignorance of the guy, because it is perhaps good for the rating percentages that he still does not understand them."
