Eurovision 2027: Host city to be announced today

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) had delayed its final decision due to various circumstances, narrowing the choice down to two central Bulgarian cities: the capital, Sofia, and the popular coastal tourist destination, Burgas.
As a reminder, the EBU confirmed on Wednesday a series of regulatory changes that will take effect starting with the 2027 contest. Among the most notable updates is the rule that winning the contest will no longer automatically guarantee the host country the right to organize the event the following year.
Under these clarified guidelines, if war, a sensitive geopolitical situation, or other factors significantly impact the security or stability of the winning country or its surrounding region, the EBU may request an independent security assessment. The union will consult with relevant parties to determine if the national broadcaster can safely host the contest. If it is determined that hosting is not feasible, the EBU will be empowered to select a broadcaster in another country to take over the organization.
