How an Israeli Doula Transformed Personal Tragedy Into a Healing Mission
Esther Avraham, a mother of six and a doula from Moshav Beit Hilkia, shares her journey of healing, overcoming a tragic late-term pregnancy loss, and bridging physical and emotional therapy.

The quiet atmosphere of Moshav Beit Hilkia is not something to be taken for granted. It is the result of a long journey filled with profound upheavals. This is where Esther Avraham lives—a mother of six, a practitioner of the "Holistic Pulsing" (Otzmat HaRachanut) method, and a doula. For her, caring for women during their most vulnerable moments is not just a profession, but a calling born from personal pain and moments when the ground was swept from beneath her feet.
Esther's roots are deeply anchored in the family tree of the Meir family, a lineage where public service and dedication to the community are almost a genetic trait. Her mother, Dr. Ziva Meir, experienced a devastating crisis in her youth, losing her parents and two brothers in a severe car accident when she was only 16 years old. Despite the terrible tragedy, an extensive educational system grew out of that brokenness. Esther absorbed this spirit of devotion with every fiber of her being, channeling it today into her therapeutic clinic, where she connects physical sensations with the depths of the soul.
Connecting Body and Soul
Esther explains her unique therapeutic approach, which bridges the gap between physical and emotional healing:
"Usually, when we experience physical pain, we run to a doctor, while the soul sits aside like a good child receiving no response. And when we suffer from emotional conflict, we turn to a psychologist, leaving the body neglected. Holistic Pulsing connects them and allows for true healing."
Based on this philosophy, Esther helps women untangle complex relationship conflicts, believing that our external environment is merely a mirror reflecting our inner spiritual work.
The Ultimate Test of Faith
However, her ability to contain and hold space for other women was put to the ultimate test in her own life. After giving birth to four children in hospitals, followed by wonderful, healing home births in complete privacy, her seventh pregnancy completely rewrote the script. In the 26th week, due to sudden medical complications, Esther—who had sworn never to step foot in a hospital again—found herself rushed by ambulance into a daunting medical reality.
In those critical moments, hooked up to IVs and monitors, Esther chose not to sink into fear, but to retreat into deep, focused prayer. An emergency cesarean section ended with heartbreaking news: the baby, born after long hours of labor, passed away shortly after birth.
In response to the devastating news, Esther found comfort in divine providence and a sense of spiritual closure:
"A pregnancy and half an hour after birth—that was all this soul needed from me."
Healing Through Loss
Even in the midst of this profound loss, Esther managed to separate pain from suffering, finding a healing experience within the medical drama. The empathetic encounter with the hospital staff helped her heal old emotional wounds. This experience became a compass that guides her today as a therapist and doula: the ability to be there for a laboring mother exactly as she is, without judgment and with infinite compassion.
Ultimately, Esther shares how one can live within the complexities of life and carry pain without losing hope, feeling deeply watched over and finding strength in her spiritual studies during challenging times.
