Rafael's SPYDER Air Defense System Successfully Tested Following 'Iron Swords' Lessons
The tests conducted in Israel incorporated lessons from the 'Iron Swords' war. The system, recently procured by Romania and the Czech Republic, demonstrated direct hits on targets in challenging operational scenarios.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has successfully completed a series of tests for the SPYDER air defense system. As part of the trials conducted in Israel, the system addressed scenarios simulating both current and future threats, successfully intercepting various targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with low radar signatures.
Rafael noted that the tests achieved direct and precise target hits (Hit-to-Kill). The trials evaluated technological updates integrated based on lessons learned from combat in Israel and operational experience gained in other global arenas. The testing focused on versions of the system equipped with Derby missiles.
The SPYDER system is a mobile, operationally proven air defense solution based on Python and Derby air-to-air missiles. It is designed to protect strategic assets against a wide range of aerial threats in both stationary and mobile missions, operating as part of a multi-layered defense concept.
In recent years, the system has achieved significant international success, particularly in Europe. Recently, Romania selected SPYDER as part of a large-scale deal to protect its airspace. This agreement follows a previous procurement deal signed with the Czech Republic in 2020.
