"If you dig deep enough, the truth is revealed": Sa'ar against the UNESCO vote on Sebastia

The Palestinian Authority is promoting a vote today, Friday, at UNESCO to define Sebastia as a Palestinian heritage site in danger — a proposal that ignores the Jewish history of the place.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar addressed this and said:

"The Palestinian leadership and those who assist it in international institutions are not just trying to rewrite history, they are trying to invent a completely false narrative, to erase and deny the Jewish connection to this land."

According to him, Sebastia is a place of immense importance in the history of the Jewish people and the ancient Kingdom of Israel, and it bears witness to the history of the kings of Israel.

Sa'ar made these remarks at an event where Guatemala recognized the City of David as a site of central importance to the values and heritage of the Guatemalan people, following similar moves by the USA and Argentina in recent years.

"There is one thing about history: if you dig deep enough, the truth is revealed," he said. "This is exactly what the City of David shows the world. Layer after layer, stone after stone, the ground serves as evidence of the history of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. No vote in an international organization can change what is beneath our feet."
