"Dangerous escalation": The Palestinian Authority calls on the Peace Council to convene

The presidency of the Palestinian Authority called today, Tuesday, for the Peace Council in Gaza to "convene urgently and make decisions to stop the Israeli aggression against the UN headquarters, including UNRWA." According to the Palestinian Authority presidency, the attack on the UN headquarters "is a dangerous escalation that cannot be tolerated, and a grave violation of international law." It further added that "what is happening in Jerusalem, Qalandiya, and the West Bank is part of an Israeli policy aimed at undermining the existence of the Palestinian people."

These remarks come against the backdrop of an announcement by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu:

"Israel has begun to evacuate the UNRWA compound in Kafr Aqab in Jerusalem in accordance with the law and in accordance with my instructions. We will not allow an organization whose employees were involved in terrorism and the October 7 attack to operate in Israel."

Earlier, large forces of the Israel Police began operations in Kafr Aqab in northern Jerusalem as part of the commencement of the evacuation of the UNRWA compound. The forces entered the site together with the relevant authorities and contractors on behalf of the Jerusalem Municipality, as part of the implementation of the laws intended to cease the organization's activity within Israeli territory.
