About 20,000 shekels a month — even without experience: the new track for recruiting teachers
The Ministry of Education is offering a temporary employment track — up to 5 years — in an attempt to address the teacher shortage: about 8,000 teaching staff will be recruited on personal contracts, with salaries based on their experience and professional background, even outside the field of education. Teachers who complete one school year will also be able to receive a retention bonus of up to 20,000 shekels.

Against the backdrop of a severe shortage of teaching staff, the Ministry of Education has opened a new employment track under which it will be possible to recruit about 8,000 teachers on personal contracts, with salary conditions reaching up to 20,000 shekels per month for a full-time position. The move is intended to allow schools to recruit professionals without teaching experience, but who possess expertise in other fields, and offer them a salary commensurate with their professional background.
Teachers in this track will be employed under a special contract and will not be unionized within the Teachers' Union. The contract will be signed initially for one school year (10 months) with the possibility of extension; however, a teacher may be employed within this framework for a maximum of five years.
Salary Model
One of the central components of the program is the salary model, determined by education and professional experience:
-
A teacher with a bachelor's degree in the relevant field and five years of professional or teaching experience will be able to earn 17,500 shekels per month.
-
A teacher with a master's degree and five years of professional or teaching experience will be able to reach a salary of 18,500 shekels per month.
-
The 19,500 shekel salary level is intended for those with a master's degree or five years of experience in the field, combined with experience in teaching mathematics, English, or science.
Alongside the monthly salary, the program includes an incentive to remain in the system: a teacher who completes one school year under the personal contract and chooses to continue for another will be eligible for a retention or excellence bonus of up to 20,000 shekels.
These teaching fellows will be employed under special contracts in official elementary and middle schools within the regular education system. The track is designed to help solve the severe staff shortage by allowing professionals from outside the traditional pedagogical path to bring their expertise into the classroom, though the salary for a full-time position remains significantly lower than that customary in the high-tech sector.
