Now, Emma Heming, 48, wife of 71-year-old Bruce Willis, is shedding light on the heavy emotional toll of full-time caregiving for the star amid his ongoing and deteriorating battle with dementia.
In an interview published this week in Hello! magazine, Heming, who has been married to the actor for over 17 years, describes how their two daughters together, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, are coping with the new daily routine. While enjoying the embrace of friends and extended family, including former wife Demi Moore, the household reality remains deeply complex.
Coping with Reality and Vulnerability
Heming candidly shared the emotional strain, stating: "My daughters have seen me strong, of course, but they have also seen me broken on the floor. At the end of the day, I am only human. I think they are very aware that I am doing my absolute best. I have never gone through anything like this before, I am learning everything in real time."
Heming does not hide the daily guilt that has accompanied her since she was forced to make fateful decisions, including moving Willis to a separate home adjacent to the family residence to adapt the environment to his worsening medical needs. Despite the difficult circumstances and forced physical separation, Heming tries to project business as usual as much as possible, maintaining shared breakfasts and dinners in a desperate attempt to preserve sanity and a sense of normalcy for her daughters.
