Electra Expands Appliance Dominance in Israel with New Water Dispenser
Electra Consumer Products is expanding its Israeli market share with a competitively priced water and ice dispenser, while scaling back its food retail investments.

Electra Consumer Products is expanding its footprint in the Israeli home appliance market, launching a new water and ice dispenser priced at 1,290 NIS. The device features integrated ice-making capabilities, with future plans to add coffee preparation functions. This move marks the company's entry into a sector that generates recurring revenues from maintenance services and filters, while challenging established market players with aggressive pricing.
Vertical Integration and Supply Chain Control
The launch is part of a broader corporate transformation aimed at making Electra a vertically integrated player in the appliance sector. The company oversees manufacturing at overseas facilities, manages an import volume of thousands of containers annually, and operates an independent logistics infrastructure comprising seven centers, dozens of trucks, and a dedicated service network. This comprehensive control, combined with ownership of major retail chains such as Mahsaney Hashmal and Shekem Electric, allows the company to bypass traditional middlemen and swiftly respond to market demands.
Company data highlights this growth, showing that Electra's retail market share climbed from 22% in 2022 to 28% in 2025, while direct imports surged to 70% of white goods sales across its chains. Co-CEO Yoram Badash emphasized the consumer benefits of this strategy, stating: "When we bring a product directly from the factory to the consumer's home and eliminate intermediary layers, the savings reach the buyer. Direct imports now account for 70% of our white goods sales, and we see this as proof that customers recognize the value."
Market Competition and Industry Concerns
While consumers benefit from lower prices, the strategy has sparked significant concern among local importers who find themselves competing with the very retail platform they rely on for distribution. Consolidating imports, marketing, and retail under a single corporate umbrella threatens smaller competitors in an industry valued at roughly 8 billion NIS annually. Industry experts question whether long-term efficiency gains will outweigh the risks of dominant market consolidation.
Electra's expansion extends beyond water dispensers into a catalog of approximately 650 private-label items, ranging from premium kitchen appliances to personal care products. These include IPL hair removal devices under the DOLFI brand, cleaning solutions under DOMA, and professional styling tools for men and women under PRO BARBER WOMEN and MAN.
Strategic Shifts in the Retail Sector
Even as Electra solidifies its dominance in the appliance market, it is simultaneously pulling back from the food retail sector. The company's attempt to build a complementary retail arm through Carrefour generated heavy financing costs of roughly 50 million NIS annually. Electra is now reducing its stake from 49.5% to 24.9% during the chain's public offering, relinquishing control to focus entirely on its highly profitable core appliance business while complying with Israel's Concentration Law.
