Elbit Systems has announced a major strategic acquisition in the global defense industry, informing the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange on Tuesday about the completion of its purchase of ISE International Submarine Engineering Ltd, a Canadian company specializing in advanced autonomous and remotely operated underwater systems.

The transaction was completed at a purchase price that is not material for Elbit. With this move, the defense contractor is set to significantly expand its capabilities in the underwater and maritime autonomy domains.

Advanced Underwater Technologies

Based near Vancouver, ISE is a high-tech company engaged in the development and manufacturing of underwater vehicles, including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), as well as computerized control systems and robotics.

The company has been operating for more than 50 years and, according to Elbit, has accumulated extensive experience in underwater robotics. The Canadian firm has supplied more than 250 underwater vehicles to customers in over 20 countries worldwide.

Expanding Maritime Capabilities

Elbit Systems' existing maritime portfolio includes uncrewed surface vessels, underwater systems, integrated Command and Control (C2) systems, electro-optic and sonar systems, as well as communications and electronic warfare technologies. Through its subsidiaries and global centers of excellence, Elbit provides proven operational maritime capabilities supporting missions ranging from coastal security to deep-water operations.

Elbit announced that integrating ISE's autonomous underwater technologies aims to expand the company's capabilities in underwater Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Mine Countermeasures (MCM), and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), thereby further strengthening Elbit's end-to-end maritime offering.

Strategic Milestone

"This acquisition marks another milestone in Elbit Systems' strategy to expand its portfolio of solutions in the maritime domain. Combining ISE's underwater technologies with our existing capabilities in maritime electronic warfare, autonomous systems, precision naval munitions, and naval mission systems will further strengthen our position as a global provider of comprehensive and integrated maritime solutions," said Bezhalel Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems.
