Wounded IDF Soldier Attends Brigade Memorial After Fierce Combat in Lebanon

Wounds and Recovery
About a month and a half earlier, in an explosive device detonation within a booby-trapped building that collapsed on the force, Eitan was severely injured, suffering burns and grave wounds across his body. Two of his comrades-in-arms were killed on the spot during the fatal incident.
At the time of their funerals, Eitan was sedated and on a respirator in the hospital, and throughout the days of the shiva, he was bedridden. Despite the complex injury and grueling rehabilitation process, he fought with all his might to stand on his feet and attend the ceremony in their memory and honor.

The Spirit of Camaraderie
Standing before his comrades, Eitan tearfully and bravely invoked the memory of Company Commander Maj. Harel Birnstock and soldier and medic Sgt. First Class Tamir Vaknin, who fell in the disaster. Eitan shared that when he regained consciousness in the hospital two days after the incident, tears fell from his eyes twice: first when he was told of the fall of his comrades, and a second time when he heard of the battalion's response to the bitter news—a stirring reaction of spirit and a resolute "Here I am" (Hineni) call to continue the fight and the mission.
In his remarks, Eitan emphasized the deep value of camaraderie and the sense that there is no one else to do it in their stead, clarifying that the fighters step up time and again with the understanding that the mission is greater than any single individual.
