No Decision Yet on State Security for Gadi Eisenkot 34 Days Before Elections

A week has passed since Justice Minister Yariv Levin authorized the head of the Shin Bet, David Zini, to decide on providing state security to Yashar! party leader Gadi Eisenkot, yet no decision has been made. Officially, the Shin Bet states that the matter is still under review, but in practice, the delay continues, leaving Eisenkot with private security only and no official state protection—all with just 34 days remaining until the elections.
As a reminder, the advisory committee to the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs initially did not recommend Shin Bet security for Eisenkot, despite threats both domestic and foreign, primarily from Iran targeting senior Israeli officials.
Central Election Committee Chairman, Judge Noam Solberg, subsequently approached the National Security Council (NSC) head, requesting that the committee reconvene and reconsider the issue. The committee reconvened and recommended that the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs provide security for the leader of the party currently leading in the polls.
The Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs includes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Education Minister Yoav Kisch, and Justice Minister Yariv Levin. Last week, the committee was scheduled to convene and make a decision, but aside from Levin, none of the ministers—nor the Prime Minister—bothered to attend the meeting.
