Einav Zangauker, mother of released captive Matan Zangauker and a prominent symbol of the struggle for the return of the hostages, marked three years since the October 7 massacre with a poignant post on X. She dedicated her message to her son, to his fiancée Ilana Gritzewsky, and to all the victims, soldiers, and families affected by the ongoing war and the tragedy of Hamas's assault.

"My Matan, Ilana the love of my life, I am sorry you were kidnapped," Zangauker wrote. She expressed deep sorrow for the murdered captives, the fallen soldiers, the reservists, and the families carrying the heavy burden of the nation for three years. She recalled the terrifying moments of October 7 at 6:29 AM, the messages from Matan, and the lingering trauma that has never faded.

Call for Accountability and Hope

Reflecting on the national trauma, Zangauker emphasized that despite the immense pain, she refuses to give up on the country. She demanded accountability from the leadership, stating that anyone who was at the wheel when the state abandoned its citizens must step down. She thanked the public for their unwavering support during her fight to bring Matan home and vowed to continue fighting for Israel's future.

"Today we will cry. We will embrace those who returned and remember those who did not. And tomorrow we will rise. We will rise to demand truth, responsibility, and repair," Zangauker stated.

Media and Political Backdrop

As public criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu persists regarding the failures of October 7, media figures have also reflected on the tense atmosphere. 103FM radio host Gideon Oko shared an anecdote about receiving a hostile message from a senior advisor to the prime minister during a live broadcast in the early days of the war, highlighting the intense political friction surrounding the leadership.
