When Amit Katz decided to become religious (ba'al teshuvah), the world of the Katz couple shattered. For his wife, Dana, it was a complete collapse. "I thought that the sky had literally fallen on me, it was terrible," she describes the moment, adding that she considered getting a divorce immediately. On the other hand, Amit was experiencing a spiritual elevation at that time and was convinced that the good and the light would sweep Dana along as well.
"At that moment, it was clear to me that she would join me," he explained in an interview with the program "HaOlam HaBoker" (The World This Morning). "The light here is so great."
The ability of the two to continue to "see" one another, even in the heart of the crisis, was expressed in a formative way the moment Amit decided to wear a kippah. Although Dana opposed the idea, she recognized his fear of the environment's reaction and chose to support him fully. In words that became a milestone in their relationship, she told him: "I don't want this kippah, but you want it and you have decided. I am going to be there for you now."
Mutual support was the foundation, but rebuilding the relationship required active work and practical tools. The couple began a process of breaking down the gaps and discovered, as Amit explains, that they are much more similar than they thought: "When you start breaking things down into principles, suddenly we saw that on 95% of things we agree."
