Tour Disruptions and Weather
According to TMZ, stage construction was halted prior to the official announcement, and dismantling began shortly after the cancellation. Gillette Stadium management, tour organizers, and public safety officials monitored the worsening weather conditions throughout the week before making the final call.
"We never wanted to be activist musicians, but this situation placed us at the center of an important and fierce debate," Ed Sheeran told fans during a recent performance.
Controversy and Protests
The cancellations coincide with a turbulent period for the tour. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who recently faced backlash and controversy over opposing rapper Macklemore's appearance on the tour due to past antisemitic rhetoric. Following the dispute, several supporting acts withdrew, and a protest by Massachusetts Peace Action had been planned outside the venue before the weather forced the cancellation.
Other events in the region, including the Global Citizen Festival in New York and the All Things Go festival, were also called off due to the severe weather conditions.
