Health Ministry Investigates Suspected Ebola Case in Jerusalem
The Israeli Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that a person returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been hospitalized with suspected Ebola symptoms. The individual, who arrived in Israel a few days ago and subsequently developed a fever, has been placed in strict isolation at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center. Authorities stressed that this is currently only a suspected case and diagnostic tests are underway.
Epidemiological Investigation and Public Safety
Health officials have completed an epidemiological investigation to trace potential contacts.
"Anyone who does not receive a notification from the Ministry of Health is not required to take any action at this stage," the ministry emphasized.
The ministry reminded the public that Ebola is not airborne and is transmitted through direct contact with symptomatic patients or bodily fluids. Previous similar scares at Rambam and Ichilov hospitals proved to be false alarms, and no confirmed cases of Ebola have ever been diagnosed in Israel.
Enhanced National Preparedness
The health system has maintained heightened surveillance since the outbreak in Congo, distributing protocols to medical staff, securing protective equipment, and establishing early detection mechanisms for inbound travelers. Officials advised the public to avoid non-essential travel to affected regions.
