Israeli reality TV star Dudu Cohen (41), known for his appearances on Big Brother and Goalstar, has broken his silence on the severe homophobic harassment he faces daily. In an emotional video shared on his Instagram account, Cohen addressed the painful reality of being targeted with slurs on the streets and online.
A Cry from the Heart
With a trembling voice, Cohen expressed his exhaustion from keeping his feelings bottled up. He decided to speak out despite knowing his family and nephews would watch the video.
Cohen shared some of the harsh insults directed at him recently, which questioned his masculinity simply because of his personal style, including wearing nail polish:
"I've had enough of the homophobic comments in the streets. Over the past month or two, I've been receiving the most difficult remarks. 'Faggot, disgusting, what are you, a woman? Did you have a sex change?' I don't understand, do I not look masculine because of my nail polish?"
Defining True Masculinity
Cohen delivered a powerful message about what it truly means to be a man, emphasizing character over sexual orientation or appearance:
"Being a man is in the soul, it is in one's principles. I am capable of giving away my last piece of bread to someone who has nothing to eat. A man is not measured by his sexual orientation, guys. A man is measured by his humanity. Deep inside, I am a true man, and I can testify to that myself."
He appealed directly to both teenagers and adults who engage in bullying, reminding them of Jewish values of respect and unity, especially during the current Hebrew month of Elul, the month of mercy and forgiveness.
A History of Public Bullying
This is not the first time Cohen has opened up about the pain of public scrutiny. In April, during an appearance on the Spill It podcast with Lilach Markovitz, he spoke candidly about the relentless body-shaming and bullying he experienced regarding his weight, noting that people often feel entitled to say whatever they want without filter.
