Luxury concierge Mathieu Shawn reveals that Dubai's biggest VIP spenders are ordinary-looking people dropping millions, valuing absolute time-saving over any cost.
When we imagine eye-watering luxury vacations, we usually think of Hollywood stars and glittering celebrities. However, Mathieu Shawn (29), a luxury concierge manager in Dubai, clarifies that the reality is completely different: the heaviest spenders, dropping around $650,000 on a single VIP vacation, are actually people who look completely "ordinary."
One pharmaceutical client, for example, spent $1.11 million in a single week in Europe, with a brief yacht celebration alone costing about $66,000. Alongside the astronomical sums, Shawn is required to provide immediate solutions to bizarre requests. In one case, he had to sprint to a bakery and arrange expedited airport security transport to deliver a giant croissant to a private jet just before takeoff. In another instance, an NBA star booked a massive six-bedroom villa in Mykonos for $58,500 for four days, purely for himself and his partner.
Nevertheless, Shawn sets one clear boundary: he refuses to recommend isolated private villas to the world's wealthy, always preferring complexes within well-known hotels due to security and staff availability considerations. According to him, the most valuable resource for his clients is time rather than money; they will gladly pay tens of thousands of dollars extra rather than waste 20 precious minutes on haggling or delays.
