Dubai Crown Prince Visits Injured Flydubai Pilot Captain Sumit Machhar
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited injured Flydubai pilot Captain Sumit Machhar, praising his exceptional courage during a flight security incident.
The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited Captain Sumit Machhar, a Flydubai pilot who was seriously injured during a critical security incident on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Sheikh Hamdan, who also serves as the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, praised the pilot for his conduct during the emergency and conveyed the deep appreciation of the UAE leadership for his actions.
Leadership Praise for the Pilot
"The Flydubai pilot, who demonstrated the highest levels of courage, responsibility, and concern for human life, has earned our deep appreciation and recognition, as well as that of the nation's leadership," the Crown Prince stated.
"We are proud that he is part of our team, part of our nation's story, and part of our humanitarian experience in the UAE—a nation of love, peace, and life," he added.
Captain Machhar became a central figure in the incident aboard the Flydubai flight. Despite being seriously injured during a confrontation inside the cockpit, the Indian pilot managed to resist the attacker, unlock the cockpit door, and enable Israeli passengers and crew members to subdue the assailant.
International Recognition
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also commended the pilot following the incident, praising his exceptional bravery for preventing a catastrophic disaster in mid-air and saving the lives of 174 people on board, including Israeli citizens.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Captain Machhar to laud his courage and express India's gratitude for his decisive actions that averted a major tragedy during the flight.
