Driver Smashes SUV into Texas Kroger Because He Needed a Restroom
A 60-year-old driver crashed his SUV through the doors of a closed Kroger supermarket in Texas because he urgently needed to use the restroom, causing thousands in damages.
A bizarre incident unfolded at a Kroger supermarket in Rosenberg, Texas, when a 60-year-old driver plowed his vehicle through the closed glass doors of the store simply because he urgently needed to use the restroom.
The Crash at the Supermarket
According to local police and reports in the New York Times, James Mansell Lancaster Jr. of Mississippi arrived at the supermarket in the early morning hours. Finding the automated glass doors locked, he decided against seeking alternative facilities. Instead, he slammed his foot on the gas pedal of his Chevrolet HHR SUV, smashing directly into the entrance near the pharmacy.
The gray vehicle tore through the shattered glass, plowed past cereal aisles, and finally came to a halt near a seasonal candy display, sitting right beneath a banner reading "Thank you for shopping with us!"
Arrest and Police Response
Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, as the supermarket was closed to customers, though several employees were stocking shelves in other areas of the building.
Lancaster made no attempt to flee and remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived. When questioned about his extreme actions, he offered a blunt explanation: the doors were locked, and he desperately needed a restroom.
"We understand that when you've got to go, you've got to go, but we strongly recommend finding a store that is open for 'business' to do your 'business.'"
Property damage is estimated at approximately $50,000. Local police arrested Lancaster and charged him with third-degree criminal mischief. The Kroger chain stated that employee and customer safety remains their top priority while they cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
