A dramatic development has emerged in the disappearance of 23-year-old Eldar Dayan from Dimona, following the arrest of two of his friends, the extension of one suspect's detention, the discovery of an abandoned vehicle in Petah Tikva, and the contradiction of the initial accounts provided.
The police investigation is taking a new turn, with suspicions of kidnapping or criminal activity, including a hit-and-run. According to police assessments, Eldar Dayan is not missing but has been on the run and in hiding for 11 days.
Dayan was last seen on July 17, as captured by security cameras at a kiosk in Petah Tikva. At noon, he sent a message to his partner stating that a fight had occurred and he would return to her; shortly thereafter, his cell phone was turned off and contact was lost.
His two friends provided conflicting versions of events. One friend, who traveled with him from Dimona, claims they were involved in a fight with a group of Eritreans and subsequently separated at a gas station. The second friend denies that any fight took place, claiming they were in his mother's vehicle and parted ways for other reasons.
After the vehicle in question was found abandoned in Petah Tikva with a shattered windshield, no license plate, and blood stains, the first friend, Maxim Bruverman, offered a new, contradictory explanation, claiming the car was damaged during the fight.
Police assessments that Eldar Dayan is alive and on the run are based on the conflicting accounts, reports that he was spotted yesterday on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv, and questions surrounding why his partner did not report his disappearance immediately. While she claims he is an ex-partner, messages suggest a romantic relationship existed between them.
According to a police statement issued earlier today:
"During the investigation, a suspicion arose that the two obstructed the investigation and conspired to commit a crime. Today, they were brought to a hearing at the Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva, where the police requested an extension of their detention."
