Damage of 150,000 shekels: A couple used their children to steal expensive equipment in Eilat

A family vacation in Eilat turned into a systematic theft spree of unprecedented scale: a couple from the north of the country, who arrived for a vacation in the southern city, are suspected of stealing products with a total value of about 150,000 shekels from 15 different businesses in just one day. According to the investigation, the couple raided the stores and caused heavy damage to the business owners.

The investigation reveals an outrageous picture, according to which the two acted in a planned manner while using their children aged 7 and 9 for the purpose of committing the thefts, while being accompanied by their two-month-old baby daughter. A source familiar with the details said that they stole valuable items including designer bags, glasses, and perfumes. Eilat District police officers raided the hotel room where they were staying and arrested the couple after a large quantity of stolen equipment was found on the premises.

In recent days, the two were released under restrictive conditions, and the woman was sent to full house arrest. In a hearing held at the Magistrate's Court in Eilat, the police requested to extend her conditions and claimed that they have video documentation of the children being used in the thefts. On the other hand, the mother's defense attorney argued that she is cooperating, appeared as required for investigations, and did not violate conditions. The judge accepted the defense's position and criticized the infringement of the rights of the interrogated.

Despite the court's decision, the police investigation continues at full force. The police continue to collect testimonies from the owners of the affected stores and gather additional evidence, with the assessment being that serious indictments will be filed against the couple in the coming weeks.
