Large-scale police and Electric Corporation raid in Tarabin and Rahat

Hundreds of police officers, Israel Electric Corporation employees, VAT officials, and other bodies began a raid on Tuesday in the village of Tarabin and the city of Rahat. This is a special operation by the Southern District police aimed at restoring governance in several localities across the Negev.

Police Commissioner Dani Levy, addressing the officers participating in the operation, stated:

"We are working hard against criminal organizations so that we will have a quieter and safer country, and therefore we will not let up in dealing heavy blows to criminal organizations."

Meir Spiegler, CEO of the Israel Electric Corporation, clarified:

"We came to enforce the law, it is a public interest. We are here together with the Israel Police to deal with the damages that accompany it; there are tens of millions of shekels that are not recorded, and there is also damage caused to the Electric Corporation."

At the end of December last year, the police launched the "New Order" operation in the localities of the South and the Bedouin diaspora, after defining the area as a "crime generator." During the operation, the police utilized maximum resources, including cavalry, drones, helicopters, and dogs, in addition to a large police presence on the ground. The high cost of the operation is now being scrutinized against the backdrop of its meager achievements.

The cost of the police operation, under the guidance of Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir and Commissioner Dani Levy, stands at 9.5 million shekels, as learned by Walla. The operation is a continuation of the "New Order" campaign that has been taking place in the Negev over the last month, with total costs estimated to have already reached tens of millions of shekels.
