Thousands of shekels in fines and vehicles impounded: Police crackdown on traffic offenders
During a targeted operation in Jerusalem, dozens of fines were issued and six vehicles were removed from the road. Police also identified drivers who filmed themselves committing serious traffic offenses and shared the footage on social media.
Officers from the Shuafat station in the Jerusalem District, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Traffic Department and the municipal police, conducted a targeted enforcement operation focusing on two-wheeled vehicles and modified cars. The goal was to enhance road safety and curb traffic violations that endanger the public.
During the activity, 53 citations were issued for various traffic violations, including the use of a mobile phone while driving, reckless driving, failure to obey a red light, failure to comply with vehicle restrictions, right-of-way violations, excessive vehicle noise, and safety defects. Additionally, 6 vehicles were removed from the road due to safety issues.
During the operation, a motorcycle producing excessive noise was seized and impounded. Furthermore, a driver suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs was summoned for questioning.
At the same time, the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District Traffic Department continues to take decisive action against life-threatening traffic offenders. Over the past week, several drivers were identified and penalized after filming themselves committing serious traffic violations and distributing the footage on social media. An investigation file was opened against one suspect who was driving while his license was suspended; upon its conclusion, an indictment is expected to be filed alongside penalties for additional traffic offenses.
