Tens of thousands at the Western Wall: 350,000 have already participated in Selichot prayers during the month of Elul
Central Selichot services have been held in Jerusalem since the beginning of the month, and 50,000 worshipers arrived just last night. This represents a significant increase in the number of participants compared to previous years.
More than 50,000 people participated last night (Thursday) in the central Selichot service at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem. This was the fourth central service held since the beginning of the month of Elul, and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation notes that during the first half of the month alone, more than 350,000 worshipers participated in Selichot services at the Western Wall.
The Foundation notes that this year there is a significant increase in the number of participants, not only in the central services. Every night, thousands of worshipers arrive at the Western Wall plaza to recite Selichot, and tens of thousands participate in the dozens of services held throughout the month of Elul.
During the service last night, the Director General of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, together with the tens of thousands in attendance, offered prayers for the well-being of IDF soldiers and security forces, for the unity of the people, and for the peace and security of Israel. The Selichot services at the Western Wall are expected to continue throughout the month of Elul, with the next central service taking place this coming Saturday night, the 16th of Elul (August 29), at 00:15, with the participation of tens of thousands of worshipers.
