At 78 years old, when most of her peers have retired, a woman working two jobs has been granted a special debt settlement reducing her liabilities from approximately 415,000 shekels to just 72,000 shekels. The ruling, issued by Enforcement Registrar Korin Yitzhaki, offers a path to financial rehabilitation for vulnerable populations.

Exceptional Debt Relief

The debtor accumulated massive debts over the years while attempting to financially support her son, who struggled with a severe gambling addiction. Forced to sell her apartment and facing a deteriorating health condition, she continued to work two jobs to make ends meet. Under the new arrangement, she will pay 2,000 shekels per month over 36 installments, totaling 72,000 shekels—a direct reduction of roughly 343,000 shekels.

"There exists a population of debtors who, precisely because of their personal and social characteristics, find it very difficult to utilize the insolvency tool," Registrar Yitzhaki wrote in her decision.

The Role of Community Registrars

The ruling was handed down through the community registrars system within the Execution Office, designed specifically to assist debtors facing complex life circumstances who struggle to navigate standard legal procedures. The registrar emphasized that while the community model offers targeted relief, it carefully balances the debtor's limited financial capacity with the rights of creditors to recover partial funds.

Once the debtor completes the 36 monthly payments—which will be deducted directly through her employer—all execution files against her will be officially closed, freeing her from a lifetime of overwhelming debt.
