Cristiano Ronaldo in Line for Portugal Return Ahead of Nations League
Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal's preliminary squad for November's Nations League matches following a 30-day suspension over a training camp dispute with coach Jorge Jesus.

Just a month after his public clash with Portugal national team head coach Jorge Jesus and his departure from the training camp, Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of returning to the national squad. According to a report published by AFP, the 41-year-old star has been included in the preliminary list of players summoned for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches in November, a detail confirmed by a spokesperson for the Portuguese Football Federation.
Portugal is scheduled to host Denmark in Braga on November 14, followed three days later by an away fixture against Wales to conclude the group stage. Coach Jorge Jesus is expected to announce his final squad on November 26, which will confirm whether Ronaldo makes his official return following the scandal that shook Portuguese football.
To recap, Ronaldo received a 30-day suspension following his decision to walk out of the national camp on September 30. The federation announced the disciplinary action last week, but because the ban was applied retroactively from the date of his departure, the suspension will not prevent him from participating in the November fixtures. The relatively lenient punishment has drawn widespread criticism both in Portugal and abroad.
On October 7, Ronaldo issued an extensive statement apologizing to fans and teammates for his conduct while acknowledging the underlying rift with Jesus. The veteran star accused the coach of breaking a promise by benching him during a 2-1 victory over Norway and failing to honor a prior agreement regarding a press conference intended to resolve their dispute. Following a tumultuous press gathering prior to a 4-2 win against Denmark in Copenhagen, Ronaldo opted to leave the camp entirely.
Despite the absence of their talisman, Portugal has continued to excel. The titleholders have won all four of their opening Nations League matches—including three consecutive victories without Ronaldo—and have already secured their berth in the quarter-finals scheduled for March 2027.
