Dangerous chase in the north: suspects maneuvered through traffic and discarded weapon
Two young men from I'billin and Ibtin attempted to evade police by driving against the flow of traffic and discarded a "Glock" pistol from their vehicle. Officers fired at the car's tires and successfully arrested the suspects. A serious indictment has now been filed against them.
A 21-year-old resident of I'billin and an 18-year-old resident of Ibtin were arrested in early August following a police chase on suspicion of discarding a pistol from a moving vehicle and driving recklessly against the flow of traffic. An indictment was filed against them today, Sunday.
The incident occurred on August 4, 2026, during a joint security operation. Police officers identified a vehicle that aroused suspicion and ordered the driver to pull over for inspection. The driver refused to comply, initiated a high-speed escape, and drove against the flow of traffic, posing a significant danger to other road users.
During the pursuit, police executed a suspect arrest procedure, firing at the tires of the fleeing vehicle until it was brought to a complete stop. During the escape, the suspects threw a "Glock" pistol out of the car window, which was subsequently recovered by officers at the scene. Both occupants were taken into custody at the end of the chase.
Following the investigation, the Haifa District Attorney's Office filed a serious indictment against the pair in the city's District Court, alongside a motion to keep them in detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. Police noted that since the beginning of the year, Northern District officers and Border Police (MAGAV) fighters have seized over 600 lethal weapons and arrested numerous armed individuals "in the act" as part of a determined effort to combat violent crime.
